 | Step aboard the Pride of America and you’re not in Kansas anymore – you’re smack in the middle of the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, or so it would seem given the room’s scale, domed ceiling and majestic columns. Turn the corner and you’re in Boston; turn another and you’re in Chinatown or Little Italy or Hollywood. Walk up the grand staircase and the aloha atmosphere of Hawaii greets you.

 | | Welcome to America. To celebrate the diversity of the country, the Pride of America’s public rooms are themed as salutes to the amazing cultural diversity of the United States. That diversity isn’t just expressed in ceilings, columns, carpeting and fabric; the music (Jazz, Blues, Rock ‘n Roll) and the aromas (Cajun, Barbeque, and down-east cooking as well as Asian, Italian and French-influenced cuisine) of America are also represented onboard.

 | The three-level Capitol Atrium with its “Washington Monument” centerpiece is flanked by the ship’s Reception Desk, and the Shore Excursion/Dive-In Desk. On the marble floor is a map of the United States. Lining the upper level balconies are scenes depicting important events in U.S. history. Overhead is a ceiling whose design is inspired by the coffered majesty of the U.S. Capitol. You’d almost expect to see George and Martha Washington descending the red-carpeted staircase!

 | Americans love to shop so there’s no shortage of outlets for their passion aboard the Pride of America. The Newbury Street Shops (a nod to Boston’s Back Bay galleries and boutiques) offer fashions, jewelry, logo items, souvenirs and sundries. Nearby is the Soho Art Gallery – art auctions are popular pastimes aboard ships these days – and there’s a Photo Gallery and Photo Shop onboard, as well.

 | The Pride of America also features a large Library and a rarity on any ship – a Hawaii Museum! If you’re looking to play cards like a Riverboat card shark, head to Shuffles, the Card Room. If you’re looking to stay connected with friends back home, head to the Internet Center. The Pride of America also features a Chapel for weddings and vow renewal ceremonies, as well as for small, inter-denominational services.

 | | The Pride of America aims for her share of business meetings and incentive groups. As a U.S.-flagged ship, the cost of meetings is fully deductible for tax purposes, according to NCL. Therefore, this ship offers superlative Conference and Meeting Room facilities. Five meeting rooms can be separated or joined as the need arises. Plus, there’s a large, circular, multi-level, 250-seat Diamond Head Auditorium with audio-visual systems second to none.

 | | Ready for a swim? There are two beautiful pools aboard the Pride of America – the South Beach Pool, the ship’s nod to Miami Beach; and the Oasis Pool, the ship’s aft-located pool with a nod to remote, southwest hideaways. Plus, the ship counts five whirlpools; if you befriend a passenger who has chosen one of the large suites, you can count ten more! And here’s a nice touch – kids have their very own splash pool! | |
