How good can dining aboard a ship with almost two thousand hungry passengers really be? Celebrity's bold reply is: outstanding. Of course, it doesn't rank with the finest restaurants in the world but compared to the seagoing competition, the Galaxy (and all Celebrity ships) excel. All food operations on Celebrity ships are overseen by renowned French chef, Michel Roux, who designed the galleys, developed the menus and wine lists, and assists with the training of dining staff. In keeping with French tradition, he creates dishes that are classic and simple, using fresh ingredients, and rich, flavorful sauces. Alternatively, he's also created "Lean and Light" low-fat options available at every meal.
Fine dining connoisseurs will enjoy Celebrity's program called "Gourmet Valet" that allows passengers to make reservations (for a small fee) at select restaurants at certain ports of call that have been highly recommended or reviewed by Gourmet Magazine. Anyone who wants to participate should make arrangements at the Shore Excursion Desk soon after boarding.
Orion Restaurant
Celebrity knows that ambiance and elegance are essential ingredients in any dining venue. Accordingly, there are two, wide, sweeping staircases that connect the two-level Orion Restaurant. Each level is decorated in deep sea-blue and gold. Tall windows at the stern of the ship flood the room with sunlight during the day, while at night your eye is inevitably drawn to a giant, illuminated blue and metallic world map that dominates the center of the dining room ceiling.
There are two separate galleys in this huge two-story room in order to ensure seamless service for up to 1,100 people. Here you'll find tables of all sizes, lots of comfortable chairs, and plenty of space for everyone without feeling crowded. There are two dinner seatings nightly and there are entrances to the dining room on both the Entertainment and Promenade Decks.
Oasis Café
An oasis of tasty cuisine for a grumbling stomach. This huge restaurant serves up fresh and tasty buffets at breakfast, lunch, and midnight. During the evenings, the indoor section serves as an alternative casual sit down restaurant and is divided into smaller, more intimate spaces. The outdoor area is located next to the Oasis swimming pool and is covered by the magrodome.
Veranda Grill
Hot dogs, hamburgers! Conveniently located next to the pool, you'll find this grill serving up hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, sandwiches, fresh salad ingredients, and plenty of dessert choices.
Room Service
Room service has just gotten better. Of course, on the Galaxy you'll find the standard fare: hot/cold sandwiches, salads, cheese and fruit platters, desserts, and beverages. But now Celebrity is the first cruise line to offer complimentary gourmet pizza delivery right to your cabin! If the line gets too long waiting by the pool, just have a pizza sent straight to your room for no additional charge! Pizza is available between 3 and 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. and 1 a.m.
