On most cruise lines there’s been a noticeable loosening of the dining regimens that long governed shipboard eating habits. Some ships now offer open-seating throughout the evening in a multitude of restaurants – with upwards of six or more venue choices. Others have retained the traditional “fixed-seating,” main dining room arrangement but have added an “always-casual” restaurant and a reservations-only alternative restaurant to allow more shipboard variety.

Royal Caribbean has taken the latter approach. Aboard the Enchantment of the Seas, the focus for evening dining remains within the main dining room. But an upscale alternative restaurant and an always-casual buffet-style restaurant balance the choices very nicely.

The main dining room aboard Enchantment of the Seas is the grand, two-level My Fair Lady Dining Room. With a little bit of luck, you’ll be seated at a table far away from the busy galley doors, because this room is busy! But with tiered seating on the lower level and partitions throughout to break up the space, the dining room is actually a very civilized sanctuary of savory, well-presented cuisine.

The Windjammer Café is a self-serve buffet. Pick your pleasure: Italian, Asian, Mexican, “feel-good” hearty, or “feel-a-need-to-diet” light, there’s plenty to choose from. And there’s plenty of indoor, tiered seating with forward, port or starboard views. Head outside with your tray for fresh air and pool views. Windjammer’s open for breakfast and lunch. At night, it serves as an always-casual alternative to the main dining room.

Chops Grille is Enchantment’s, extra cost, reservations-only evening dining alternative. The cuisine favors savory beef dishes but the seafood is delicious, too! Vegetarian alternatives are available and the desserts – to diet for! If you’re celebrating a special occasion, try to get that Chops Grille reservation made ASAP. Seating is limited, as it should be. Reservations are easiest to come by on days in port; hardest when the ship is at sea all day.

They’re not really dining alternatives (or are they?) but “Seattle’s Best Coffee® “Latte-Tudes” offers selected pastries and the like; Ben & Jerry’s® Ice Cream bar offers ice cream! Both are new additions aboard the Enchantment of the Seas. There’s a small Café adjacent to the fitness center and as a final alternative – there’s Room Service!
