Glass elevators give you the best view of the waterfall. Nine Decks tall, the ship’s atrium, the Centrum, is striking. Skylights well overhead, and large floor-to-ceiling windows on each level, keep the space bright and light during the day. At night subtle lighting gives it a warm and romantic charm.
On Deck 5 you’ll find the Purser’s Desk, Shore Excursions, and the Schooner Bar. Above are the shops, the Beauty Salon, and plenty of lounge chairs for people-watching.
Boutiques of Centrum:
Charge it.
Every boutique within in the shopping area accepts plastic – in the form of your shipboard charge card! Use it for everything from toothpaste to jeweled tiaras – you’ll probably find it all here. Some of the shops offer duty-free bargains on liquor, perfumes, jewelry and watches.
The Empress actually has two “Centrums,” though only the main one carries the name. Located towards the aft on the starboard side, a stairway, an elevator, and a wall of windows extend from deck to deck opening the ship to the sea. The effect is stunning (and unusual – views of the ship’s port and starboard sides are noticeably different).
Sun Deck Pool Area:
They don’t call it the Sun Deck for nothing.
The Deck 10 Pool area offers lots of space for passengers to lay poolside. Good thing too. Two pools and three hot tubs make this a popular area for those that love to take soak up the rays and dip in the cool waters of the pool. Try an ice cold drink from the Pool Bar, or a soothing soak under the canopy of the hot tubs. Partake in the pool games, or divert your attention to the giant chess set.
Library:
No better time to delve into a good book then when you’re on vacation. Check out a book from the ship’s library and pull yourself up a deck chair.
Cards:
If you’re a card fiend there’s always a game to scare up somewhere. Check your daily itinerary, or ask the Purser where to find the closest game.
