Forget the Mariner’s enormity – forget her ice skating rink and her climbing wall – the Mariner’s Royal Promenade is probably the most exciting thing you’ll see and use onboard. This “street” passes for hundreds of feet along the center of the ship adding an entirely new dimension to the onboard cruise experience. Along the way are shops, boutiques, bars, and eateries. Overlooking the promenade are passenger cabins, adding authenticity to that “street scene” atmosphere. Busy by day, the scene is even more engaging at night. One evening during your cruise, the Royal Promenade more resembles Bourbon Street in New Orleans – it’s the “Mardi Parade!”

The Mariner’s two main atriums bookend the Royal Promenade, creating, in effect, two “town squares.” The forward atrium (Royal Caribbean calls them “Centrum,” extends nine decks, from the disco to the Solarium; the aft stretches 11 decks to connect the Photo Gallery with the Viking Crown Lounge. The Centrums provide natural light for the promenade, enhance the ship’s open atmosphere, and serve to orient passengers.

The hubs of indoor activity are unquestionably located along the Royal Promenade or up and down the two Centrums. The Guest Relations Desk, the main show lounge, the main dining rooms, “Royal Caribbean Online” (the Navigator’s Internet café), all of the onboard boutiques and shops, the Library, the Concierge Club, the Business Center, “Dragon’s Lair” (the disco) – they’re all here within steps of these hubs.

Those soaring Centrum elevators also lead you directly to the Mariner’s upper decks of indoor and outdoor action and relaxation. The ship features three outdoor pools and four outdoor whirlpools. Tucked under a protective overhang within the wind-protected Solarium are two more whirlpools.

At the very top of the Mariner (like the bride and groom atop a wedding cake) is the Skylight Chapel. The Skylight Chapel handles the wedding and the ceremony, and the ship then takes you on your honeymoon vacation…elegantly easy, romantic, and memorable. Also near the ship’s upper decks is the Bridge Overlook, offering a unique overhead view into the Mariner’s Bridge. Up one deck and way far forward is the Observation Deck, affording a wind-blown perch where you’ll have views of a “titanic” proportion.

Way down below, below the Royal Promenade are the ship’s Casino, the Photo and Art Gallery, the Photo Shop, “RCTV” (the ship’s television studio), and the Mariner’s unique, indoor ice-skating venue.
