The Adventure of the Seas is all about diversions. You've heard the
overworked expression, "a cruise ship is like a floating resort."
Well, this one really is like a floating resort, and then some. You've got
your solarium, your health spa, your restaurants, your bars and lounges,
your giant show lounge, and your pools and whirlpools. You've also got a
rock climbing wall, an ice-skating rink, and inline skating tracks. (Find
those at your neighborhood resort!)
San Juan is a hopping town - the most populous in the Caribbean.
Your late evening departure allows plenty of time to hop along with it,
as well as time to tour Old San Juan and its centuries-old history. Then,
it's off to the south of the Caribbean. Two days at sea bring you to Aruba,
where the language and look is as Dutch as it comes, considering you're
in the tropics, thousands of miles from Holland. Tour the island and check
out those crazy, gnarled, divi-divi trees!
After a late night departure (another chance to check out the late night goings-on!) you’re in Curacao. Again, it’s so Dutch you’ll wonder if you landed in Amsterdam, were it not for the swaying palm trees. And Amsterdam doesn’t have scuba diving. Curacao, does. Then, another day at sea and you’re in St. Maarten. This time, you’ve got a French slant to go along with the Dutch. The island is the smallest, “two-culture” island in the world. It’s all here – great food, great shopping, great golf (Royal Caribbean’s Golf Ahoy program comes in handy here!), and great history.
Moving along, you dock next in St. Thomas, where the culture is
English. Shopping, as everyone will tell you, is first-rate. But so is
the golf, and those beaches! Be sure to leave some footprints in the sand
before your return to San Juan.
